Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the "Home Assistant Nest Integration" app ("the app") accesses and uses data from your Google Account. This app is a personal project, used only by its owner to connect their own Google Nest devices to their own self-hosted Home Assistant instance. It is not used by any other individual or organization.

What data is accessed

The app requests access to Google's Smart Device Management (SDM) API scopes (sdm.service) and Cloud Pub/Sub (pubsub) in order to read the state of, and send commands to, Nest devices (such as thermostats and cameras) that the account owner has explicitly authorized for access.

How the data is used

Device state (e.g. temperature, mode, camera event notifications) is used exclusively within the owner's private Home Assistant instance to display device status and to allow the owner to control their own devices. Data is not used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to home automation for the account owner.

How the data is stored and shared

All data stays local to the owner's self-hosted Home Assistant instance and the associated Google Cloud project used to relay Pub/Sub events. Data is not sold, shared, or transmitted to any third party.

Data retention and revocation

Access can be revoked at any time via Google's Partner Connections Manager or via your Google Account's third-party access settings. Revoking access immediately stops the app from accessing any further device data.
